In 2018, I released "Hospitals", a collection of Dark Ambient drones evoking atmospheres that I associated with the lonely, deserted feelings of hospitals in the evening or at night, when people with ailments are in a state of being half asleep, whilst still experiencing a level of suffering. At any rate, this was what the music suggested to me. There were four pieces with drawn-out notes or motifs drenched in reverb and a brief, minimalist closing track.
Recently, I found myself drawn to those atmospheres again. So, "Hospitals 2" has the same basic structure: four longer tracks and a minimalist vignette at the end. However, this time, I recorded the material with a more deliberate approach. The motifs used on the long tracks are all repeated using different, and often changing numbers of bars between repetitions. Therefore, the constellations of overlapping elements are continually developing – a primitive version of an approach often used in Minimalism and/or Ambient Music. I have made greater use of it on this volume compared to the first volume.
Tracks 1 and 3 were recorded using synthesiser sounds, tracks 2 and 5 utilised electric guitar, while track 4 was done on an acoustic guitar.
Compared to the 2018 release, this album strikes me as more complex, even darker and lonelier, which is saying something, I suppose.
