State Champion is a rock 'n' roll band based around the songwriting of Kentucky native Ryan Davis. Originating in the mid-2000s as a bedroom recording project, the band has evolved over the course of three LPs (on their Sophomore Lounge label), homespun side releases, and countless miles of touring over the past seven years. Summoning sonic guidance from Rust Never Sleeps-era Neil/Horse to Dead Moon to the Silver Jews and beyond, the band's live set is an undeniable force, affecting audiences with its charmingly broken blend of garage folk, sun-warped honky tonk toons, southern art rock, noisy, unhinged slop and soul. Its core reside between Louisville, Nashville, Chicago, and rural Iowa.
