Biography

Samuil Evgenyevich Feinberg (1890 – 1962) was a Russian composer and pianist. Raised in Moscow, he entered the Moscow Conservatory and studied under Alexander Goldenweiser. He is most ed today for his complete recording of Bach's The Well-Tempered Clavier and many transcriptions. Feinberg was awarded the State Stalin Prize in arts in 1946. He also composed a dozen piano sonatas as well as fantasias and other works for the instrument, which have been for the most part neglected in the standard repertoire.
