Biography
Founded at the tail end of 2011, Le fruit vert brings together the complementary practices of Marie-Douce St-Jacques (Le laps small press) and Andrea-Jane Cornell (who co-runs Los Discos Enfantasmes). Operating on the margins of improvisation and inspired by Baroque music forms such as the ritournelle – which involves cyclical melodic lines and repetition across keys (or, in this modern manifestation, synths and vocal loops) – Le Fruit Vert conjure up dense, “hymnotic” incantations brimming with eerie vocal abstractions, propulsive pulses, organ swells, protruding tonal landscapes and doctored field recordings. With their debut EP iflore, released last fall, these moody enchantresses cast a powerful spell on ambient-attuned ears.
