On "Asperities," the fourth solo album by acclaimed Canadian cellist Julia Kent, the theme of conflict creeps into her music. The word "asperity" means a roughness or sharpness of temper/conditions and Kent says, "As the title suggests, this is a record born of conflict: internal, personal and global." Julia creates these musical conflicts by looping cello, effects and found sound. ~ Irene Trudel/WFMU
